Siteimprove Accessibility

Overview 

The ‘Accessibility’ panel focuses on showing you information about known accessibility issues with your website. From here, you can find more in depth information about these issues and how to fix them. 

This panel will show you similar information to the ‘_Accessibility at Berkeley’ dashboard.

Issues

The Issues panel will show you: 

  • Issues 
  • Potential issues 
  • Resolved issues 
  • Activity

Issues 

Learn more about accessibility checks in Siteimprove

‘Issues’ are accessibility issues that Siteimprove has found on your website. These issues will need to be reviewed and resolved to make sure your website meets accessibility requirements. 

Screenshot is the Issues panel. There is a toggle mechanism that lets you switch from Issues to Pages with Issues

The Issues panel will show you a table with all known issues on your site. These issues can be both filtered and sorted.  

  • Issues: Describes the accessibility issue that Siteimprove found on your website. 
  • Conformance: The level of compliance conformance this issue relates to. 
  • Difficulty: Rates how challenging the issue will be to fix. 
  • Responsibility: Who is most likely responsible for making sure this issue is corrected. 
  • Element Type: The type of page content that this issue is found in.  
  • Occurances: How many times this particular issuehas been found.
  • Pages: The number of pages this particular issue has been found on. 
  • Points you can gain: How much your Siteimprove score will increase if you fix this particular issue. 

If you select a particular issue, you will navigate to a page that shows more in-depth information about that issue.

In this example, there are images that are missing a text alternative. This issue will need to be fixed for this website to meet WCAG 2.1 A, is found twice, on two different pages, and is considered a Beginner fix. 

This page will also provide a more in-depth description of the issue, resources on how to learn more about the issue, and what accessibility regulations this particular issue applies to. 

Potential Issues 

Learn more about reviewing potential issues in Siteimprove.  

Potential Issues’ are issues that require a human review to confirm. These can’t be determined by Siteimprove.

The Potential issues panel will show you a table with all known potential issues on your site. These potential issues can be both filtered and sorted.

  • Potential Issues: Issues that require a human review. A computer can’t tell if these are WCAG issues or not. 
  • Conformance: The level of compliance conformance this issue relates to. 
  • Responsibility: Who is most likely responsible for making sure this issue is corrected. 
  • Element Type: The type of page content that this issue is found in.  
  • Occurances: How many times this particular issue has been found by Siteimprove
  • Pages: The number of pages this particular issue has been found on. 
  • Points you can gain: How much your Siteimprove score will increase if you fix this particular issue. 

Some common Potential Issues include: 

  • Do these links (in the same context) go to the same page?
  • Is there a minimum contrast ratio between the text and background?
  • Is it clear which page element has focus from the keyboard?
  • Does this video have captions?

Resolved issues 

Resolved issues’ document any accessibility issues that have been corrected. This is a record of the work you have done to improve the accessibility of your website.

Activity 

Activity’ shows you any dismissed issues that have been found on your page. These ‘dismissed’ issues can include: 

  • Occurrences dismissed as can’t fix
  • Occurrences dismissed as false positive

Only Power Users can dismiss issues.
