There are 3 user roles in UC Berkeley’s Siteimprove account:
- User
- Power User
- Administrator
User
This is the default permission for your account when you first log into Siteimprove. This role allows you to view site information, but does not allow access to settings. You can use a SPA to access a User account.
With a ‘User’ account, you can:
- View dashboards, site issues, page reports, and scan history.
- Request page-level recrawls to check your fixes.
- Export data and send reports.
Power User
A Power User is an elevated account permission that allows users more control over their site, review settings, and customizations. Generally, a Power User will be digital accessibility liaison, communications lead, or a developer making accessibility fixes.
A ‘Power User’ can do all the things that Users can do, plus:
- Create, manage, and edit Groups and Policies for their own sites.
- Apply spelling decisions to their content.
- Ignore broken links and request deep linking.
- Create custom Dashboards.
- Initiate full site re-crawls.
- Set up automated monthly email reporting.
- Review potential issues and dismiss false positives.
Because Power Users have the ability to make setting changes, they also have additional responsibilities.
Some Power User responsibilities include:
- Setting up and managing Groups for their sites.
- Managing scheduled (automated) email reports.
How do I become a Power User?
To be a Power User, you must:
- Review the training materials listed in the Power User Agreement.
- Be approved by your department’s digital accessibility liaison.
- Be an individual. Power Users cannot be a SPA or departmental email.
- Be faculty, staff, or a vendor developer. Student employees cannot be Power Users.
- Sign and submit the Power User Agreement form.
Why can’t SPAs be Power Users?
-
Each Power User must submit their own agreement form. Because we can't see who is using a SPA, we can't verify if everyone behind it has completed the form.
-
Power Users can change settings in Siteimprove. Allowing shared accounts creates security risks, makes it hard to manage access, and removes individual accountability.
Administrator
The Administrator role is limited to DAP team members. Administrators have API authorization and the highest permissions available.
An ‘Administrator’ can:
- Add and delete sites and tags.
- Assign new Administrators and Power Users.
- Add inclusions, exclusions, and remove links.
- Dismiss issues and report false positives.
